National Road 222
Distance: 22 km
Elected the best road in the world for driving, for the pleasure, the challenge, the direct relationship between straightaways and curves, and above all, the scenery. It is the road along the Douro River that connects Régua to Pinhão. Along its sides, you can see some of the best Port wine estates.
Visits to Douro Wine Estates
There are several wineries along the Douro River that offer guided tours and wine tastings. Some even have a small museum. During the harvest season, you can also participate in the grape picking, treading the grapes in the lagares (traditional wine presses), or simply stroll among the vines. Examples include: Quinta do Vallado, 24 km away; Quinta do Seixo, accessible via the N222 road, about 40 km away; and Quinta de La Rosa, in Pinhão, 45 km away.
Sparkling Wine Museum
Distance: 4 km
Located in the Casa do Paço de Dalvares, a 16th-century manor house, it provides information about the history of Portugal's first demarcated sparkling wine region.
Douro Museum
Distance: 24 km
Located in Régua, in the former headquarters of the General Company of Agriculture of the Vineyards of the Upper Douro, it is a place where the memory, culture and identity of the Douro wine region are represented.
